Getting Started – Demonstrations

To learn more about the future of research, register for the Cloud Lab Introduction sessions. They will allow you to understand how the Cloud Lab operates. Then, you will be ready to take the full Cloud Lab training, enabling active use of the Cloud Lab platform.

INTRODUCTION SESSIONS

CMU Cloud Lab

SESSION 1: Cloud Lab Tour and Demonstration

Duration: 1 hour sessions, (40 min. seminar with 20 min. Q&A)

During this first information session, attendees will get a virtual tour of the ECL facility and a brief demonstration of the Command Center capabilities: introduction of the Command builder and setting up and queueing an experiment.

SESSION 2: Introduction to the Cloud Lab Architecture

Duration: 1 hour sessions, (40 min. seminar with 20 min. Q&A)

Demonstration of the ECL platform’s different components working together to enable remote conduct of scientific research. Introduction to the Cloud Lab architecture (CC/Constellation/Engine/Sensor Array) and to the data visualization, analysis, and simulation functions.

INTRODUCTION TO THE CLOUD LAB COMMAND CENTER

SESSION 3: Introduction to the Cloud Lab Command Center

Duration: 1 hour sessions, (40 min. seminar with 20 min. Q&A)

Tour and demonstration of the Cloud Lab Command Center software functionalities: scripts, sample preparation and experimental capabilities that enables fully remote access, design, control and execution of scientific experiments.

SESSION 4: Introduction to Open Science

Duration: 1 hour sessions, (40 min. seminar with 20 min. Q&A)

What is open science and how can it benefit your research? Come to this session to learn about the opportunities and benefits associated with opening up your research to the world. CMU Libraries provides dedicated support for transparent, collaborative, and reproducible research across disciplines with the Open Science & Data Collaborations Program which offers tools, training, collaboration opportunities, and a team of experts available as research consultants and collaborators. In this session, we will cover how to get started with collaborative tools that support sharing of research protocols and data, as well as recommended practices for open research.
